Hey, I’m Matt Lam — owner of Outdoor Oasis Design and Build. I’m a U.S. Army veteran, a lifelong creator, and someone who genuinely loves helping people turn their backyards into a sanctuary they can escape into at the end of a long day. Whether you’re dreaming of a tropical retreat, a stylish outdoor kitchen, or just want your yard to stop looking like everyone else’s on the block, you’re in the right place.

I started this company with one clear goal: to offer something better. I’d worked for years in project management, overseeing everything from pools and decks to screen enclosures and landscaping, and I saw first-hand what so many homeowners were frustrated with — missed deadlines, poor communication, and cookie-cutter designs that lacked any real character.

That’s just not how I operate.

My background in the Army taught me a lot, but one thing that’s stuck with me the most is the importance of precision and timelines. In the military, if you say something’s going to be done by a certain time, it gets done. That mindset drives every job I take on. When I tell you your project will be completed in two weeks or five months, I mean it — barring something crazy like a hurricane. You’ll never be left wondering what’s going on or when we’ll be back.

But beyond timelines, this job is personal for me. I genuinely love designing. There’s something incredibly rewarding about taking a blank backyard — just dirt, weeds, maybe a sad little palm tree — and turning it into something you can’t wait to show off. I want to create a real custom oasis that fits your lifestyle, not just what some brochure says looks nice.

One of the things that makes Outdoor Oasis truly unique is how we approach the design and planting process. A lot of companies down here use small, immature plants that take years to fill in. Not me. I prefer using mature, full-size plants from day one. That way, your yard looks lush and full the minute we finish — no waiting around for everything to “grow in.”

Plus, that allows for proper spacing, which is huge. When plants are too close together because they’re small at installation, they eventually grow into each other, become overgrown, and end up looking messy or becoming a maintenance nightmare. By using full-size plants, I can space them correctly from the start, which not only looks better — it makes your life easier in the long run.

Another thing I’m passionate about is choosing unique and exotic plants you don’t see everywhere. A lot of companies here use the same 5 or 6 types of plants over and over. But we live in Southwest Florida — a subtropical paradise. There are so many beautiful species from around the world that thrive here, and I love finding those one-of-a-kind plants that make your yard feel like yours — not just another house in the neighborhood.

More than anything though, this business is built on relationships. My customers aren’t just transactions to me — they’re people I genuinely care about. I still keep in touch with nearly every client I’ve ever worked with. We exchange holiday messages, we share photos of how the yard’s growing in, and they refer their friends because they know I’m going to take care of them.
